We’ve opened a London office! Here’s what PocketGamer had to say about it…

Palringo, the UK-based group messaging and gaming app with more than 28 million users around the world, has opened an office in London’s Shoreditch as it looks to significantly increase its focus on gaming in new markets.

The company, which was founded as a group messaging application and has evolved into a community gaming platform, has hired six new people to launch the app in key emerging markets, by focusing on its gaming capabilities. The company has committed to releasing 12 games in 2015 as it looks to establish itself as a mobile games publisher.

On the Palringo platform, users can create or join groups, chat, play games and build communities with people from all over the world based on a wide variety of shared interests, with gaming emerging as one the most popular categories.

The app currently has more than 20,000 gaming groups including groups for Clash of Clans, Modern War, Minecraft and League of Legends, some with more than 1000 users. Members use these groups to meet other like-minded gamers, plan game strategy, improve technique, and recruit members to their clans.

“This is the first time that we will actively undertake a big marketing push. We’ve been in the lucky situation that in the past we have attracted a huge proportion of our current users organically and through word of mouth,” said Magnus Alm, CMO of Palringo.

Palringo currently operates in the games hub of Gothenburg and has UK offices based near developer talent in Newcastle and Ipswich. The move to London is a logical geographical strategy to connect these territories to presage moves into future global territories.

The app, which is free to download for iOS and Android, generates the majority of its revenue from the sale of virtual goods and games through the app, such as animated rich messages and ‘Bots’ that add games and functionalities to groups.

“While Gothenburg, Newcastle and Ipswich remain important locations for us, we felt that London, and Shoreditch in particular, was the best place in the world to establish our headquarters, accelerate our business and to manage the increasing scale of our marketing operations.

“We will be making significant announcements in Q1 next year and we are looking forward to joining and contributing to the vibrant network that is the London tech and gaming community.”
